SCRIPTED/OFF-SCRIPT READINGS AT THE DRAMATISTS GUILD ON BROADWAY

Readings we usually perform are at the DRAMATISTS GUILD, 1501 BROADWAY, SUITE 701 between 43/44th Streets in NYC.

Our Updated READING will be for our THEATRE PLAY VEGAS is scheduled for JUNE 15 2023 at the GUILD.

There are two types of READINGS with ACTORS – SCRIPTED & UNSCRIPTED

An Un-Scripted Reading

The actors are cast and then rehearse with their director. There are usually two stages to this process as follows:

1. THE TABLE READ – all cast & director perform this in person or online through ZOOM or online Platform of your choice. The Table Read consists of READING THE SCRIPT, MAKING CORRECTIONS, ADDITIONS OR DELETIONS to the script, VOICING THE NARRATOR (if you have one).
2. READING the SCRIPT through with the actors should not take more than 3 hours.
3. The DAY OF THE READING – Usually the Director will meet with the ACTORS & set up the READING, DO A REHEARSAL & then take a break before audience attends.
4. THE READING is attended by an INVITATION ONLY AUDIENCE consisting of THEATER INVESTORS and PRODUCERS.

THE DRAMATISTS GUILD has one impressive room called the MARY RODGERS ROOM where RICHARD RODGERS PIANO resides. Good acoustic and viewing (50 people max) are key for a reading and you can even rent out the room for a rehearsal.

You want to get your ON SCRIPT ACTORS to know your script and have a passion for the material so they are actively holding the script in their hand & not looking at the page or at least, not being dependent on looking at the page. 

If you are a Producer/Writer you must sincerely think about joining the GUILD as an ASSOCIATE. We don’t get a kick back for talking about them – they are just a good reference to have and are looked at by Broadway Producers as a legitimate & legacy based organization. They have been around a long time and are well respected.
